Multi-agency safeguarding learning and development
September 2025-March 2026
Multi-agency safeguarding training Update September 2025
The learning and development forum has carried out a detailed training needs analysis and has produced a new learning and development strategy (LINK). This includes a set of agreed multi-agency competencies the workforce needs to deliver contemporary practice challenges. Partners are keen to get “back to basics”, empowering staff and volunteers with the competencies they need to work effectively in a challenging multi-agency environment. Partners are now working on course design and pilots for each course are being development. This page will be updated as course dates are agreed by partners. All courses are designed, delivered and facilitated by partners working together
A summary of the courses currently in development below:

This course provides professionals with essential information and tools to help them navigate local multi-agency networks to find the right help for the child. Professional attending will be provided with tools and information to consider the range options available when the child needs help. Through discussion of various case scenarios, practitioners will enhance their decision making through engagement with the child and family and with partners. Following a detailed evaluation and review the course will be rolled out to become a regular multi-agency training event for everyone working with children and young people.
Learning from safeguarding practice reviews:
Betty Lynch is the strategic lead for the safeguarding partnership and chair of Slough Safeguarding practice review group and is author of safeguarding practice reviews and rapid reviews. Betty is working with partners to facilitate interactive workshops to empower practitioners to improve their practice through learning from reviews. Referring largely to local experience, we hope that practitioners will impact on practice through attitudes, language and behaviour in relation to children and adolescents and multi-agency communications and behavioural interactions.
Leading and managing risk in a multi-agency environment:
Partners are working with Janine Edwards, a training consultant. Janine retired from being our full-time trainer in May 2024 but has come back to work with us to provide this vital training . Designed for those who are regularly involved in complex multi-agency systems, looking to advance their communications, negotiation and complex resolution skills. This course is ideal for any child protection specialists, managers and leaders, particularly those new to Slough or who have not had recent safeguarding training. The course uses sound theoretical frameworks to help leaders and managers negotiate the complexity of working together on high levels of risk and what can sometimes be a highly charged environment. Looking at relational models and trauma informed practice and learning, the course aims to empower our managers leaders and specialists to perform well together.
