What to do when a child needs help training
Structure
The session will be an interactive and engaging session, using case study examples to take a candidates through scenarios of a child’s situation.
Key competences
Attendees will develop competence in the following:
- Seeking to first understand the needs of the child/adult with them and their families.
- Distinguishing between developmental needs, additional needs and significant harm.
- Putting the child’s needs and views first and consider these as central to decision making.
- Clarity and confidence about how to contribute to the multi-agency approach to children.
- Contribute effectively to multi-agency risk management and communication.
- Empathy and respect, for the person/child, for other professionals.
- Awareness of the pathways and support available in the community.
Aims- what we are trying to achieve;
- Increase awareness of when and how to respond when a child needs help and or protection.
Objectives- what are you going to do better:
- Know how to respond when a child, who may need help or protection, responding effectively to the unexpected.
- To have confidence in being professional curious with the child and or their family, to understand their needs and to be skilfully challenging to both families and professionals, when needed.
- You will know how to find out what help that the child and or family need and to support the family access such support.
- Know where to access support for you as a professional, to assist in your decision making and support the child and their family.
